EXAMPLE 1  –  FACADE CLADDING

Derived from lessons learned with large scale cladding projects, the CURVATUЯ™ system is ideally suited to complex large scale surfaces where a desire for improved accuracy, controlled joints and smooth “fastener free” surfaces are important criteria.

Capable of accommodating a wide range of cladding materials from sheet metal through fiber reinforced plastics, mesh, and phenolic resins, the design and construction of the support structure immediately below the panel surface provides greatly improved accuracy and flexibility.

The system provides control over panel shape by controlling the panel edge in three dimensions and prioritizes the panel surface, not the support structure in its execution.

Advanced software and analytical methods enable surfaces to be unitized and rationalized into readily fabricated sections. Optimization routines within the digital modeling environment establish surface characteristics in line with designers’ expectations.

The materialization from digital to physical is taken a step further with the CURVATUЯ™ system; now, the digital is exported directly to the contact point with the physical, during fabrication.

After determining that the overall surface curvature lies within the performance parameters of the selected material or materials, the unique geometry of each section is then transferred to two components without the need for subsequent processing:

  1. The cladding geometry of the surface is developed into a file sent directly to either laser or waterjet fabrication.
  2. The component geometries of the sub structure are sent directly to production equipment.

Other major structural supports that interface with the building structure are dealt with using traditional methods.

In many cases, the need for expensive press tools or molds to create complex geometry is greatly reduced. For spherical radii, down to 10′ to 12′ (3 to 4 m), an appropriate gauge of stainless steel or aluminum sheet will deflect naturally without the need for press tools and will very closely approximate a spherical surface. Moderately complex compound curvatures are also achievable within the limits set by the materials’ physical properties. Where necessary, the use of alternate materials or post processed cladding panels may be required, however the CURVATUЯ™ system continues to offer advantages in fastening and panel edge control that result in significantly improved aesthetics.

Flexibility in sizing and layout allows optimization for shipping and storage as well as raw material efficiencies.

Units are shop assembled prior to delivery for greater control and accuracy.
